Peking Opera goes digital
Adjust font size: Bookmark and Share

As the Beijing Peking Opera Company celebrates its 30th anniversary, Seagate, the world leader in storage solutions, is helping it store its archives.

The opera company will use Seagate's FreeAgent family of desktop and portable storage solutions to back up thousands of hours of videos, pictures, scripts and recordings of its complete repertoire.

Some are performances that date back more than 70 years.

Peking Opera has a long history and a large number of classic repertoires.

Many treasured works and performances by late renowned artists have not had the benefit of the latest in recording technologies.

"We need a great deal of digital storage to help us preserve these beautiful classics and prevent possible losses," says Wang Yuzhen, president of the Beijing Peking Opera Company.

Seagate sees protecting traditional culture as its social responsibility and has supported such projects as the protection of the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes in Northwest China, and the textile traditions of the Kutch region in India.
