Czech film "Who Is Afraid of the Wolf" directed by Maria Prochazkova has been selected for competition at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The full-length feature film will make its international premiere during the festival to be held in Berlin on Feb. 5-15, the film's co-producer Czech Television said Friday.

Prochazkova, 33, has won a number of awards for her short films, such as "Footprints" and "Book-lover".

Prochazkova's latest film will compete in the festival's Generation Kplus section, which presents films from all over the world that look at life from the view of children and youth.

"It seems to me that the section in which we compete has been made up specially for us," Prochazkova told local media.

Producer Vratislav Slajer said "we could not have wished a better international start."

"Moreover, our film has a chance to come to the fore in the Generation section," Slajer said.

The film tells a poetic story about a crisis between the parents of a 5-year-old girl. It combines fairy tale motives from The Red Little Ridding Hood, which is actually a horror story in the child's imagination, with a psychological family drama.

The film premiered in Czech cinemas on Dec. 4 and has drawn more than 14,000 viewers.

Slajer hoped that the film's reception in Berlinale would also help attract more viewers in the Czech Republic.
