Liu Quanyi is famous for his style of traditional Chinese realistic painting. The artist has spent years painting the beautiful women of Miao ethnic group in southwestern Guizhou province. And his works are now on display in Beijing.
Under the brush of Liu Quanyi, women of the Miao minority have become alive on paper. From the facial expressions to the well-known silver jewelry of Miao people, the artist pays much attention to detail. Liu was captivated by the folk culture of the Miao minority back in the end of the 1980s, when he graduated from Tianjin Academy of Fine Art.
Liu said, "The women of Miao are my college graduate work.The first time I visited the Miao ethnic community I was fascinated by their rich history and culture. Since then, I have painted the women of Miao for twenty years. "
Shang Hui, chief editor of Fine Art Magazine, said, "We've curated a series of painting exhibitions. They are all focused on Chinese culture. Liu Yiquan has not only followed the tradition. But he has also developed it, on the basis of traditional Chinese realistic painting, characterized by fine brushwork and close attention to detail. It's an ambitious work."
This is Liu Yiquan's first solo exhibition in Beijing. More than 20 works have been selected from his nearly three decade long career. The exhibition will run until the end of January.
