A man convicted of stalking and harassing film star Uma Thurman was sentenced to three years of probation.

Justice Gregory Carro of the State Supreme Court in New York Monday also ordered Jack Jordan to undergo psychiatric treatment.

In addition, Carro issued a five-year protection order to prevent Jordan from having any contact with Thurman.

Jordan, a 37-year-old out-of-work lifeguard and pool cleaner, was convicted last month of harassing Thurman from 2005 to 2007 by sending her threatening and disturbing cards and e-mail messages.

The "Kill Bill" actress testified at the trial that she was "completely freaked out" by Jordan's actions and feared for her life and the safety of her two children.

Jordan's lawyer, George Vomvolakis, said his client loved Thurman and was obsessed by her but that his behavior was "creepy," not criminal.

Jordan apologized in court and said he would have left Thurman alone had he realized he was causing her pain or fear.

"My greatest wish is that I had known sooner that I was putting fear into the heart" of Thurman.
