Chinese actor Liu Ye celebrated his 30th birthday on Sunday amid greetings from the live audience of his stage play "Amber" in Beijing, Web site Sina.com.cn reported on Monday.
The 2005 sold-out love drama, starring Liu Ye and Yuan Quan, is being re-staged in a ten-day run starting on March 21 at the National Grand Theater.
When the show on Sunday night dropped its curtain, the theater turned into a huge birthday party. Liu Ye's celebrity friends took to the stage to give their blessings, and the actor blew out his birthday candles as the 1,000 or more audience members belted out the lyrics of "Happy Birthday to You."
A limited edition of stamps featuring Liu Ye had been issued for the occasion and was available for purchase at the theater.
"Turning 30 is very special," Liu Ye was quoted as saying, "I will put more efforts into both the screen and the stage."
This year four films and television dramas featuring Liu Ye will meet the audience, including the long-awaited World War Two film "Nanking Nanking."
