China's top police officer Meng Jianzhu Tuesday continued his tour in Xinjiang and called for every soldier and police officer to use greater strength in fighting crime.

"Currently the most urgent mission for Xinjiang is to ensure social stability," said Meng.

"Government and Party organizations at all levels must map out detailed work and responsibilities for every region, post and personnel," he said at a meeting with soldiers, police officers and militia.

Meng, a State Councilor and Public Security Minister, made the remarks during a tour of Aksu City and Yili Kazakh Prefecture in northern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Meng expressed appreciation for the hard work of all the soldiers, police officers and militia and encouraged them continue to play their parts in keeping social stability in the region.

Meng also called for Party members in Xinjiang to visit homes of local residents and discuss the July 5 riot, which left at least 184 dead and 1,680 injured.
