Some of the heroic rescues that took place during the deadly earthquake are being recreated on stage.

A new drama, entitled "Hold The Ground", proved a sensation among an opening night audience in Beijing. The production debuted Sunday night.

The drama is based on factual accounts. The play relates the story of how people come together to save the farmers of a village cut off by the quake. The China National Drama Theatre and Sichuan Art Troupe co-produced the play.

Some 20 actors are cast in the story. They have mixed feelings of grief for the many victims and inspiration for the heroism of rescuers. The drama runs at the Beijing Haidian Theatre for three consecutive nights. Next, it heads off on a national tour.
