Shaanxi relocates 1 million after quake
Adjust font size:

More than 1 million people in the northwest province of Shaanxi who were affected by last month's major earthquake have been relocated, local authorities said.

"More than 310 million yuan has been allocated for their support," said Cao Lili, head of the provincial civil affairs department.

That amount is equal to about 44.9 million US dollars.

Those left homeless and without an income can receive 10 yuan and half a kg of food per day, while orphans or elderly people without relatives and the homeless handicapped can receive 600 yuan per month, Cao said.

People in Ningqiang, Lueyang and Nanzheng had already received funding, she said.

The provincial government had transported 21,475 tents to Hanzhong City and Baoji City, she said. Homeless people would live in those tents, in temporary housing or with relatives.
