2 miners rescued 20 days after quake

Two miners have been rescued 20 days after the earthquake trapped them in mountains near Mianzhu City. Mi Chengfu, aged 51, and Liu Hongkun, aged 45, were airlifted by helicopter Sunday morning to a hospital in Guanghan City, 25 kilometers north of the provincial capital Chengdu.

The two miners were discovered outside of Qingping town on Saturday with broken bones and other injuries. Workmates of the two miners were rescued on Wednesday, and they alerted authorities to their colleagues location. The miners had sufficient access to rice and water, allowing them to survive for so long.

Liu Hongkun, aged 45 is airlifted by helicopter Sunday morning to a hospital in Guanghan City, 25 kilometers north of the provincial capital Chengdu.

Six soldiers were dropped into the mountains by parachute to search for the men. The miners were offered medical treatment while they awaited evacuation.
