Staff from the Center of Disease Control in both the Sichuan provincial capital Chengdu and Pengzhou city have been monitoring water sources in the Pengzhou region since the day after the earthquake.

CDC staff have been gathering water samples in the 20 villages and towns in Pengzhou. The checks cover water plants, springs, wells, and other sources.

Staff Member of Center for Disease Control, Pengzhou, said, "The important thing is to find the outlet of the water source, not the water body itself. And when taking samples, we need to clean the faucet to get an original sample." "The national regulation for drinking water stipulates that chlorine in the out-going water has to be at least 0.3milligram per liter. "

The Pengzhou water-testing lab went into action the day after the quake. So far, they have conducted 300 samplings of 160 water sources, which all turned out fine.

The four major mandatory standards deal with chemical particles, contamination, and the regulations of the Ministry of Health, as well as a dozen minor criteria.
