While many in Qingping town have been evacuated, some residents are still awaiting rescue. So it's a race against time for those in Qingping and nearby Tianchi, where the only road leading up to them has been destroyed again.

Most people have evacuated from Tianchi and Qingping, two towns in Mianyang, one of the areas worst-hit by the devastating earthquake.

But the only road linking the two towns to the outside world has been destroyed again. And there are still some residents in the mountains waiting to be rescued.

Rescue teams have managed to airdrop food and water, as they work to rescue the stranded townspeople.

Jiang Zhiyi, Officer of Chengdu Air Force said "We have dispatched 12 helicopters, and we've rescued 118 people."

Time means life. On Sunday, about 1000 soldiers began trying to clean up the road. On Monday, students from a local civil aviation school joined in the efforts.

And on Monday afternoon, rescue teams tried to create a larger landing area to accommodate some of the biggest helicopters in the country.
