Donations from MNCs, joint ventures hit 1.3 bln yuan

China has received 1.3 billion yuan (185.7 million U.S. dollars) in cash and goods for earthquake relief from multinational corporations (MNCs), joint ventures and Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan-based enterprises as of Monday.

These included 1.192 billion yuan in cash and 108 million yuan worth of relief materials, the foreign investment department of the Ministry of Commerce said.

These donations were from 414 MNCs, joint ventures and Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan-based enterprises.

The 8-magnitude quake, centered in Wenchuan County in Sichuan Province, affected many parts of the country. The death toll has risen to 34,074 as of Tuesday noon, according to the earthquake relief headquarters of the State Council, China's Cabinet.
