An extremely valuable emerald necklace is now in need of a good name. It won't be yours if you win the naming contest, but it will bring you another big prize.
Beijing's Colorful Yunnan Emerald Shopping Center, the owner of the 57-bead necklace, is offering 100,000 yuan (US$14,672) worth of jewelry for a good name for what it calls a "national treasure," Xinhua news agency reports.
The necklace is estimated to be worth 1,000 times that amount, but instead of selling it, Colorful Yunnan has put it on a month-long display.
With each bead perfect in shape and color, the necklace is the most valuable emerald accessory in two decades, according to Ren Jin, an emerald expert at the China University of Geosciences.
Colorful Yunnan has opened a Chinese Web site, http://hot.ku6.com/qicaiyunnan/index.html, to solicit candidate names until October 18.
The company says the ideal name should consist of two to four Chinese characters. The winner will be announced on October 30.
