Shielding for the 8.9-kilometer tunnel connecting the Pudong New Area and Changxing Island finished Friday morning, and the final link has been made with the 16.65-kilometer bridge spanning the mouth of the Yangtze River between Changxing Island and Chongming Island. The tunnel-bridge project, the longest in the world, stretches 25.5 kilometers and is scheduled to open in 2010.
