Several current and former NBA players, including China's small
giant Yao Ming, on Sunday participated in a promotional event to
help AIDS orphans and HIV/AIDS-affected children in Shanghai.
China's portal website Sina reports that Yao Ming, former
Chicago Bulls great Scottie Pippen, former Los Angeles Laker Vlade
Divac, Golden State Warriors' center forward Adonal Foyle, Yao
Ming's teammate Luther Head and other NBA stars, taught basketball
to AIDS orphans from from Anhui Province, Yunnan Province and other regions at the
Shanghai Sports Institute, as well as exchanging gifts with
them.
As part of the "Basketball without Borders" event, the aim of
Sunday's activity is to promote friendship, healthy living and
education with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS awareness and
prevention.
Yao Ming called on people to shed their discrimination against
children living with HIV/AIDS, and to offer more care and
understanding.
