A pistol and two bullets missing after an assault on a police officer earlier this week in east China's Anhui Province have been found, police said Thursday. Police are still hunting for the suspects.
The gun and ammunition were abandoned at a local water works while a motorbike used by the suspects to escape was discovered at a train station, the provincial department of public security said. The items were found by police Wednesday night.
The attack on the police officer Mao Jigen occurred Tuesday at a checkpoint in Shuanggang Township, Tongcheng City, when Mao was checking three men suspected of stealing motorbikes.
The suspects fled but Mao subdued one of them after a 2-kilometer chase. While he was trying to handcuff the suspect, he was stunned when hit with a brick from behind by another suspect, police said.
The three suspects, aged about 30 and all about 1.75 meters tall, are still at large. Anyone who provides information leading to their capture will receive a 10,000 yuan (1,460 U.S. dollars) reward, police said.
