The Second China-UK Internet Roundtable, a two-day event co-sponsored by China's State Council Information Office (SCIO) and the UK Dept for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) closed on July 23 in Beijing.

Focusing on the opportunities and challenges presented by the growing importance of the Internet, the forum was an opportunity for China and the UK to discuss the future of e-business, and especially the opportunities thrown up by increasing use of mobile phones to access the Web.
The two sides emphasized that governments and enterprises should cooperate to meet the challenge of ensuring Web security.
Both sides stressed the need to protect young people from harmful content on the Internet. On intellectual property rights, they agreed that a balance needs to be found between digital content creators' lawful rights and consumers' legal interests.

The SCIO and BIS agreed to make joint efforts to solve these problems. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation by organizing forums to discuss policy and promote economic cooperation, innovation, and commercial opportunities.
SCIO and BIS reiterated that both sides would make efforts to develop the Roundtable into a platform for governments and enterprises of the two countries to share experiences, ideas, solutions and best practices. The 3rd China-UK Internet Roundtable will be held in 2010 in the U.K.
