The man who allegedly killed five people and injured another two in southwest China's Yunnan Province has been diagnosed as mentally ill and will face no criminal charges, police said Wednesday.
Ke Lijiang, 24, a native of Wenwu Village, Mojiang Hani Autonomous County of Pu'er City, was arrested Sunday at his home. He was suspected of killing five people and injured two others at Walu Village of Mojiang early on Sunday.
"Tests showed he was suffering from schizophrenia when he committed the crime," said an official with Mojiang Public Security Bureau. "With his mental illness, Ke thought the victims wanted to kill him and he is incapable of any criminal responsibility in that state of mind."
The victims, two men and three women, were all local villagers. The other two were slightly injured.
