Prosecutors in Fuyu County of Songyuan City in northeast's China Jilin Province have ratified the arrest of two teachers who sold equipment to students to help them cheat in the university entrance exam.

An accomplice was arrested for helping to hide the profits, the Procuratorial Daily reported today.

The exam was held from June 7 to 9. Two teachers, Liu Yanhua and He Shujie, and their accomplice, Yang Chun, were caught by police on June 5 while testing the equipment.

Both Liu and He are teachers from the No. 1 High School of Fuyu County. The accomplice Yang didn't sell the equipment but helped them keep the 264,000 yuan (US$38,824) profit, the report said.

Liu confessed she sold 23 cheating devices to students and charged between 5,000 and 8,000 yuan. She also paid younger students who radioed the answers to the candidates sitting the examination.

Liu and Yang also prepared equipment for their children, who would take the examination this year. Liu bought the equipment from a former classmate Tai Shouzhen. She told police she sold as many as she did to get a free device for her child.

Tai has already been sentenced to prison for this crime.

They were not the only group involved in selling cheating equipment to students. Police had confiscated 683 devices in 14 different cases by June 12, Xinhua News Agency reported earlier.

A survey by China Youth Daily found the most popular topic of discussion for students and parents in Songyuan was cheating in exams.
