One person died in a detention room on Saturday in Fuzhou, capital of east China's Fujian province, which is the second sudden death in detention center this year after another died in the same city on March 23, police said on Saturday.
A drug addict name Chen Hongqiang was found in coma in his bed by his room mate surnamed Chen at 7:10 a.m. Saturday in Fuqing Detention Center in Fuzhou, said Liu Ming, director of political department of Fuzhou Security Bureau.
Police officials and doctors arrived. Chen was sent to hospital but died there, Liu said.
An investigation into the sudden death had been launched by the provincial public security bureau and the municipal procuratorate, Liu said.
Chen Hongqiang was detained by police after found using drugs in an entertainment place at 9:00 p.m. on April 1. He was sentenced to 10 days in detention, Liu said.
Another person died in detention room was named Wen Huilong, said Cangshan Distric People's Procuratorate.
Wen fell off his bed and hurt his head at 5:44 p.m. in the Second Detention Center of Fuzhou, his roommates reported the incident and police arrived four minutes later. Wen was sent hospital at 8:17 p.m. and died in the hospital, said the procuratorate.
The body is under autopsy and the initial investigation showed that there was no fights at the site, said the procuratorate.
Further investigation is underway, the procuratorate said.
