Macao police nets 148 drunk drivers in 2 months

The Public Security Police (PSP) of Macao has announced that a total of 148 drunk drivers were caught in the first two months of this year, the Macao Post Daily reported on Wednesday.

Among these drunk drivers, 28 were found with an alcohol level exceeding 0.5 gram, 36 exceeding 0.8 gram, and 64 exceeding 1.2 grams, according to the daily which quoted information from the PSP.

Between October 2007 and December last year, some 444 drivers were transferred to the Public Prosecution of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) after failing to pass the alcohol test involving a level of 1.2 grams or above.

In addition to drunk driving, the PSP also logged 12,834 traffic accidents for the whole of 2008, of which 4,506 involved injuries.

At the end of last year, there were a total of 183,227 licensed vehicles in Macao, which has a population of over 550,000 residents.
