Forty-nine people, including 16 foreigners, were arrested last year for trafficking drugs from the "Golden Crescent" region, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region's police chief in charge of drug crimes said yesterday.

The police confiscated 95 kg of heroin in the region last year, after working with police in Pakistan, Afghanistan and some central Asian countries, Jin Peng said.
