Xue Yanzhong was elected head of the political advisory body in north China's Shanxi Province on Thursday.
He will serve as the chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
Xue, 54, was elected at the second session of the 10th CPPCC Shanxi Provincial Committee, in the Provincial capital Taiyuan.
Born in February 1954 in Xiaoyi city of Shanxi Province, Xue holds a master's degree from the Party School of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
Prior to the election, Xue served as vice secretary of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee and president of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee Party School.
His predecessor, Jin Yinhuan, died on a duty trip in Shanxi on October11, last year.
