A source told Shanghai Morning Post the hospital was a privately owned medical institution and most of its staff were unlicensed.
Hou was the only psychiatrist in the hospital, the newspaper quoted the source as saying. One of the nurses involved in the beatings claimed self defense, saying Wang had kicked her when she changed her bed sheets.
Footage for December 15 was not given to Wang's family, so they don't know what happened on the day of her death.
