Min Yi, chairwoman of the trade union association of China International Publishing Group (CIPG), attended the 15th National Congress of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), which opened on October 17. She spoke to China.org.cn about the role of trade union at CIPG.
CIPG publishes and distributes books and periodicals in foreign languages, and plays a unique role in projecting the image of China overseas and promoting international cultural exchanges.
Min said that the trade union had been very active in polling its members on how CIPG could improve the effectiveness of its work. She said members had made numerous proposals that had been taken up by the group – which had gone on to reward the originators of the ideas. It was, she said, an example of win-win cooperation between unions and management.
"The CIPG employees have been very active in submitting proposals, some of their ideas have been quite wonderful and have greatly improved the work of the group," said Min.
According to her, the union had made great progress in maintaining the rights and interests of employees, and promoting democratic management.
Min also said that trade unions should extend their recruitment policies to freelancers and people engaged in on-line business as these people also required an organization to protect their interests.
