China marks Int'l Women's Day

People across China marked this year's International Women's Day in different ways.

In southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, more than 4,000 female job seekers swamped into a job fair especially organized for them by the local government. About one third of them were lucky enough to find jobs in that special day.

Real estate agents in the southwestern Chongqing Municipality were giving a "Women's Day promotion".

Advertisements on the streets read "Love her, buy her a house" in a day when female clients could purchase a house at a discount.

In the northeastern Jilin Province, nine policewomen were rewarded for their outstanding achievements and hard work in a local frontier inspection station.

"They have secured the boundary and deterred the stowaways," said Liu Haizhou, a senior official with the Changchun Frontier Inspection Station.

In northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, 38 women and two men swore in as volunteers to safeguard local women's rights. They would provide legal assistance for women in need.

The northwestern Harbin City has seen five blood donors giving their rare type of blood to a Russian patient.

"I am really glad to celebrate the special day in such a special way," said Tan Fang, a 33-year-old woman.
