Top 10 'outstanding Chinese youths' selected

The results of the 18th selection of "Top 10 Outstanding Chinese Youths" were published by the All-China Youth Federation on Sunday. The awards ceremony will be held on January 1, 2008.

They are as follows: Zeng Manwu, Yang Wei, Li Changsong, Pei Chunliang, Wang Jie, Xu Chuanxi, Wu Qiang, Dong Yuexia, Xu Benyu, and Lu Meng.

Zeng is a battalion leader with the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA); Yang has won several international gymnastic competitions; Li is a "hero" from the Chinese People's Armed Police (PAP); Pei is a village head from Henan Province; Wang is a handicapped person who runs a secondary school for the handicapped; Xu is the dean of the Sino-US Law Institute of the China University of Political Science and Law; Wu is a police officer who has participated in United Nations peace-keeping missions; Dong is a female expert from the oil field; Xu is a postgraduate student who has devoted himself to teaching in a remote hilly village; and Lu is a prize-winning ballet actress.

The 10 were selected from 45 candidates recommended by 30 local organizations of the Chinese Communist Youth League and the All-China Youth Federation, as well as the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

The judges, who were selected from 600 people by random computer generation, cast a secret vote to choose the winners.
