Nan Bingjun has been appointed Political Commissar of east China's Shandong Military Area, according to the website of people.com.cn run by the People's Daily.

Nan was promoted from vice political commissar to the current position, according to a decree signed by Chinese President Hu Jintao, also chairman of the Central Military Commission. Nan's predecessor Zhang Bingde has topped the official retirement age of 60.
