The accident occurred at 2:20 a.m. when the No.1322 passenger train was affected by a landslide. The locomotive and six carriages were derailed.
Seven people were slightly injured and the Litang-Zhanjiang railway, which links Guangxi with Guangdong Province, was cut off. Services have been disrupted and it is not known when the line will reopen to traffic.
Rescuers rushed to the site after the accident, and an investigation is underway.
