Seven people were killed and 21 injured when an aerial work platform on a steel railway bridge collapsed Saturday morning in Wenzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, according to sources with the Wenzhou city government.
The accident occurred at about 9:00 a.m. Saturday when the aerial working platform on the Wenzhou-Fuzhou Railway under construction collapsed, hitting three nearby houses and burying 28 people.
The collapse was caused by sudden break of a steel safety cable, said workers on site.
More than 450 firefighters, policemen and nine fire engines have rushed to the accident site for rescue operations. They retrieved all the seven dead and 21 injured as of 2:00 p.m.
All the injured were sent to hospitals. An investigation into cause of the accident is under way.
