Police on Sunday detained a man suspected of having set off an explosion that killed one person and injured 35 in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
Ren Wenchuang, 20, from central Henan Province, allegedly set off the blast at a plaza in Yiwu City at 8:47 p.m. Wednesday at a site where a group of local residents and migrant workers were dancing.
Ren confessed after he was arrested at Zhengjiawu Railway station in neighboring Pujiang County at about 10 a.m. on Sunday, police said.
Zhejiang's top officials had ordered more than 150 police and experts to crack the case. The investigation was facilitated by the public, who offered more than 100 important clues, police said.
All the injured, including two with serious wounds, were in stable condition as of Sunday, local officials said.
The police did not say what Ren allegedly used to cause the blast, nor what his motives were. The investigation is continuing.
Yiwu is China's largest distribution center for such small commodities as accessories. Business at the Yiwu market, with more than 50,000 stalls, was about 3.48 billion yuan (481.3 million U.S. dollars) last year.
