Typhoon Wipha had left seven people dead and four missing by 3:00 PM on Friday in east China, a spokesman with the Ministry of Civil Affairs said.

A total of 2.7 million people in Zhejiang, Fujian, Shanghai and Jiangsu have been relocated and more than 11 million people were affected.

The typhoon, which caused direct economic losses of 7.45 billion yuan (nearly US$1 billion), also destroyed more than 13,000 houses and damaged 57,000 others, the spokesman said.

China's central government on Friday allocated 81 million yuan in living subsidies for the people affected by "Wipha" in Zhejiang and Fujian Provinces.

A disaster relief workgroup led by Dou Yupei, the vice minister of Civil Affairs, went to the two provinces to direct the disaster relief work.
