One tourist from Taiwan was killed and seven others were injured
from a bus collision in east China's Shandong Province on Sunday morning, local
government said.
The dead is a 52-year-old woman called Fu Hsueh Chi and her husband
was also on board when the accident happened at 9:25 AM on Sunday
in the Changqing District of Jinan, the provincial capital, said Li
Tao, an official with the Taiwan affairs office under the municipal
government of Jinan.
The injured, three men and four women, were first sent to a nearby
hospital for emergency treatment after the accident and they were
later transferred to the Central Hospital of Jinan, according to
Li.
"Most of them suffered from fracture, but they are all out of
danger," Li said, adding the provincial health department has set
an expert team to treat the injured.
The bus carrying the 16-member tourist group from the island
province crushed head-on a bus on its way from Jinan to the city of
Qufu, or the hometown of Chinese philosopher Confucius.
"Police said the slippery road after rain might be attributed to
the cause of the accident," said Li.
The tourists are from Taipei and the Miao Li county in northwest
Taiwan and the provincial government has informed the families of
the victims.
"One of the dead's family members is expected to arrive in Jinan at
night and more are expected to come tomorrow," said Li.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
