Shanghai Meteorological Observatory released a new round of high
temperature warning Sunday after the east China metropolis has
endured four days with the temperatures above 33 degrees
Celsius.
Controlled by the subtropical high barometric pressure, the
temperature in downtown Shanghai was reported at more than 35
degrees Celsius Sunday.
According to the observatory, Shanghai has already suffered four
rounds of continuous high temperature weather this summer, with the
top high temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius.
The high temperature once again brought great pressures to the
city's power supply.
The municipal government temporarily changed the working
schedule of some heavy power-consuming enterprises and demanded the
temperature of air conditioners in government institutions and
hotels be set at 26 degrees Celsius.
The observatory said Shanghai would have a strong rainfall
around Monday and would suffer another round of high temperature
lasting about five to six days after the rainfall.
