Police Smash Pyramid Selling Riot

Dozens of suspects have been seized after an offensive happened to a local police station in Baoding, north China's Hebei Province on Sunday, June 3, 2007.
 

Police in Baoding, north China's Hebei Province, on Sunday cracked down on an attack on a local police station organized by an illegal pyramid selling gang.

China News Service reported that nine policemen were injured in the attack that took place at around 4:00 PM after the police arrested some of the leaders of the group from an illicit gathering.

More than 200 group members, with clubs and blades in their hands, rushed into the police station in the Xinshiqu District of Baoding, assaulting police staff and destroying everything in their path, including a police car.

The incident lasted for about 20 minutes, and some attackers escaped from the locale before police reinforcements arrived.

Injured policemen were later sent to hospital as a large-scale hunt was launched. Dozens of suspects have been seized at the time of going to press.
