Construction on the world's highest airport in altitude will be
completed on October 1, 2010 in Ali, the Tibet Autonomous Region,
in southwest China.
Located in the northwest portion of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Ali
has an average altitude of 4,500 meters. The new airport will help
improve the transportation conditions there.
Besides the Ali airport, 36 others will be built by the end of
2010 in western China at a total investment of 52 billion yuan
(US$6.7 billion).
