KAMPALA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Sports loving Ugandans are unhappy at the poor show of their team at the on-going 2012 London Olympics where none has got a medal.
"Look at China, they prepare well over a long period of time and they are performing. Why can't we Uganda borrow a leaf from China because this kind of performance is very poor,"said Uganda's Squash coach Simon Kajubu.
Uganda sent 16 athletes to the games and 14 are all out of contention for medals, with only Moses Kipsiro qualifying for the 5,000m finals and Stephen Kiprotich who will compete in the marathon.
Kipsiro, who won a double gold at the Commonwealth Games in India, was in good form as he was in the lead two laps to the end on Wednesday as he managed to qualify for the finals on Saturday.
Other Ugandans who failed to qualify from the 5000m semifinals included Geoffrey Kusuro and Abraham Kiplimo.
Another sports supporter Emma Mugenyi told Xinhua that he was also equally disappointed in Uganda's performance at the Olympics as he thought this time they would do better.
"We are tired of watching this poor show by our athletes every time. We should start investing in other sports now,"said Mugenyi.
"These athletes should even stop complaining about the little allowances they are given because they totally can't perform. How can a whole Uganda fail to win medals when our brothers Kenya always win,"said Mary Apio.
Uganda's list of athletes who have all failed to perform include: Edwin Ekiring (badminton), Charles Ssekyeya (weightlifting), Ganzi Mugula, Jamila Lunkuse (swimming), Jacob Araptany, Benjamin Kiplagat, Dorcus Inzikuru, Janet Achola, Thomas Ayeko, Jane Suuto, Julius Mutekanga, Janet Achola, Geoffrey Kusuro and Abraham Kiplimo (athletics).
While medal table leaders China have all their athletes including winners fly back to China, Uganda's team including the officials have opted to remain in London to watch the other competitions of the Games despite their little allowances of 72 U.S. dollars per day and 360 dollars for officials as compared to other nations that are earning bigger allowances.
Uganda last won an Olympic medal in 1996 through Davis Kamoga in the 400m race. Enditem
