LONDON, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. swimming prodigy Michael Phelps had his second three-peat at London Olympics on Friday when he clinched gold medal in his signature 100m butterfly.

Phelps, who won the event at the Athens and Beijing Games, had a slow start and stood seventh at the turn. But he produced a superfast burst in the second lap to take over all competitors, and got his giant hands on the wall first in 51.21 seconds.

Chad Le Clos, who upset Phelps on the final stroke to clinch a gold medal in 200m butterfly, dead-heated with Russian swimmer Evgeny Korotyshkin in the final, and both shared silver medals in 51.44 seconds.

It is the second three-peat for Phelps in London after he relegated compatriot and world champion Ryan Lochte to win the 200m individual medley on Thursday.

Phelps, owner of the biggest haul of 21 medals including 17 gold in Olympic history, has become the first male swimmer to win a same event in three straight Olympics.

This is the third gold out of the five medals Phelps got from London Olympics. Enditem
