China is still a developing country and will fulfill its international obligations within the realm of its capabilities, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Monday.
China is making greater efforts to fulfill its international obligations and is achieving more positive results in this regard, he told a press conference in Beijing. [More about FM press conference]
At the same time, China can only do that "within the realm of its capabilities," since there are still 150 million Chinese people living in poverty according to the United Nations' standards, he added.
"Every one of them is a member of the Chinese family as well as the global family," Yang said.
"While fulfilling its international obligations, China is contributing to the creation of a better world by handling its own affairs well," he said.
When commenting on changes in the international pattern and order, Yang said the world's pattern and order continue to evolve in a profound and complex way.
He identified "positive" trends in the evolvement toward more balance of international power, deeper reform of the global economic governance system, and greater international willingness to pursue a win-win cooperation.
"I think these three trends will be beneficial to the more just and reasonable development of the international pattern," he added.
