Int'l readers concerned about Wen's gov't work report

Prior to the annual NPC & CPPCC sessions this year, English, French, Russia, Spanish and Arabic services of People's Daily Online launched an online survey, soliciting opinions on the hot social and economic issues readers care about. The 20-question survey has aroused the attention of many international readers during the past weeks.
The results revealed that Premier Wen's government work report, ways to boost economic development, anti-corruption and building up a clean government, healthcare, environment protection, income gap as well as early economic recovery on Chinese mainland are the issues that draw most concern. The survey also showed the expectations international readers had placed on China's annual political gatherings.
Top three issues that attracted most international readers' attentions are: ways to boost national economic development (61.6 percent), environment protection (56.8 percent) and whether economy on Chinese mainland has touched the bottom and begun to recover (about 53.6 percent surveyed voted "Yes").
Additionally, 36 percent of international readers showed their interests in China's stock market, while 48 percent of those surveyed thought China had played a crucial role in handling global affairs.
Over 78 percent of readers chose Internet as their first choice to keep them informed about the latest development of NPC & CPPCC sessions, and 45 percent of them expressed their strong interests in Premier Wen's government work report.
