There are in total over 200,000 registered housekeepers like Xiao Qiang in Beijing. According to statistics, as reported by the National Development and Reform Committee and the Beijing Homemaking Company, 800 thousand out of 6 million families are in need of housekeepers.
Professional service is everywhere
The handing over of family affairs to an outsider starts as early as the wedding ceremony.
Her job as a wedding planner kept Yang Xue occupied for the whole duration of the National Day Holidays. Three wedding ceremonies were held within seven days. She used to work as a music teacher in the kindergarten, but due to too much talking, she had a sore throat and a hoarse voice.
Years ago, Yang was enlightened by her friend's reasoning that holding a wedding ceremony was too much to handle and that it would be great to hand over the job to someone else. "Nowadays, young couples have high expectation for their weddings; however, they lack the time to carefully plan and arrange every detail. Therefore, a responsible and price-favorable planning company is the best choice," Yang explained. In fact, her confidence was based on revelations that the overall Chinese expenditure on wedding totaled at 53 billion dollars in 2011 and would reach 57 billion in 2012.
The "happy and good wife" courses will begin in November. "100,000 yuan for 14-day-course. And we'll offer a psychological coach with whom the wives can get in touch at any time for the duration of one year."
Their course includes psychological guidance and an analysis of family problems. Ways to cope with the mistress issue is in the curriculum as well.
"A great many families are facing problems and disagreements which may lead to divorce if not handled well." The staff indicates that the courses are open to the wealthy wives in hopes of improving their marriage quality.
