The legitimate rights of a Taiwanese resident had been guaranteed during an ongoing investigation for suspected criminal activities of endangering national and public security, said state security organs on Sunday.
Chung Ting-pang, suspected of holding classified documents, disturbing satellite signals and other offenses, had been put under residential surveillance since June 18, according to a separate report released in late June by the state security authority of east China's Jiangxi province.
It also noted that on the morning of June 19, the authority notified a relative of Chung in the mainland of his situation and arranged for the relative to meet him in the afternoon.
The state security has approved a visit of a family member from Taiwan on July 5, a meeting with his lawyer on July 11 and a telephone call with his wife on July 26, said a statement issued Sunday by the same authority.
The investigation went on smoothly, as Chung appeared "relatively cooperative" and asked for mercy together with his family members, it added.
