An international Taoism forum will be held in October at Hengshan Mountain of central Hunan Province, a scenic site renowned for Taoist culture.

The forum, co-sponsored by China Taoist Association and China Religious Culture Communication Association, is expected to attract about 200 delegates from more than 30 countries, according to a statement from the sponsors Tuesday.

The forum will focus on how to integrate Taoism philosophy with social reality, said Zhang Jiyu, vice president of the China Taoist Association, at a press conference in Beijing.

"This year's topics will highlight Taoists' concerns about the present world and their desire to help society solve existing problems with Taoist wisdom," Zhang said.

Taoism, a philosophical and religious tradition that originated in China, seeks to establish harmony between human beings and the principle of the universe, which is called Tao.

There are about 50,000 Taoist priests and more than 5,000 religious sites on the Chinese mainland.
