About 300 million Chinese are expected to travel during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays this year, according to a report released Monday.
The number represents an increase of 20 percent from a year earlier, according to the report by the China Tourism Academy and CTrip.com, the country's leading online travel service enterprise.
Travelers are projected to spend 145 billion yuan (22.7 billion U.S. dollars), or 25 percent more than a year earlier, on domestic travel during the mid-autumn holiday, which lasts from Sept. 10 to 12, as well as the week-long National Day holidays that begin on Oct. 1.
During the upcoming holidays, travelers will mainly flock to attractions in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Xi'an and Chengdu, according to the report.
Meanwhile, 2.2 million are expected to head overseas to popular tourism destinations such as the Maldives, Thailand's Phuket Island, Indonesia's Bali Island, Hong Kong, and South Korea.
They will spend about 2.1 billion U.S. dollars on international travel, said the report.
