Migrant population in Beijing exceeds 7 Million

Registered migrant population in Beijing has reached 7,040,000, accounting for 35.9 percent of the city's permanent residents, latest census figures released by the municipal government showed.
Of the migrant population, 54.3% are male, while 3,218,000 females make up 45.7% of the total. About 3.5% of the migrants are school-aged pupils from 6 to 14 years old.
According to the statistics, 73.9% of the floating population are doing business or working in the capital, while 8.0% of them are staying with family, and 4.7% are studying. The result shows that Beijing provides important employment opportunities for people from other provinces, the report said.
The latest result shows that 40% of the migrants live in Chaoyang and Haidian, two urban districts of Beijing. Three suburban districts, namely Tongzhou, Changping and Daxing, saw the largest increase of newcomers, according to the report.
Most of the non-native residents in Beijing come from Hebei, Henan and Shandong provinces.
