The quake-hit Sichuan Province has received 1.32 billion yuan (203 million U.S. dollars) from Taiwan compatriots for 189 reconstruction projects, provincial governor Jiang Jufeng said Monday.
Jiang, who headed a delegation from Sichuan to visit Taiwan, said the 189 projects, including the building of homes, schools, hospitals and welfare houses, have all completed.
The delegation came to the island along with the gratitude from all the people in quake-hit areas, Jiang said at an economic cooperation forum between Sichuan and Taiwan.
He hoped that business people from both Sichuan and Taiwan boost ties and explore cooperation opportunities.
Wu Poh-Hsiung, honorary chairman of the KMT Party, said at the forum that he was impressed by what he saw during a recent visit to quake-hit areas in Sichuan.
The devastating magnitude-8.0 earthquake occurred on May 12, 2008, in southwest China's Sichuan Province, leaving 87,000 people dead or missing.The Chinese government had set the goal of rebuilding the region within three years after the quake.
Official figures show that 37 cities and towns, 2,915 schools, 4,543 km of highways and 26,000 km of countryside roads have been rebuilt so far in Sichuan.
