A total of 234,829 Hongkong residents and 21,201 Macao residents were living on the Chinese mainland by Nov. 1, 2010, according to the sixth national census data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Friday.
Among those Hongkong residents living on the Chinese mainland, 141,321 people, or 60.18 percent of the total, were males, according to the preliminary results of the census.
Males accounted for 55.22 percent, or 11,708 people, of the total Macao residents living on the Chinese mainland, it said.
The new figure did not include those Hongkong and Macao residents who stopped over on the Chinese mainland for business trips or tourism, the NBS said.
