A total of 170,283 Taiwan residents were living on the Chinese mainland by Nov. 1, 2010, according to the sixth national census data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Friday.
Among those Taiwan residents living on the Chinese mainland, 116,547 people, or 68.4 percent of the total, were males, according to the preliminary results of the census.
The new figure did not include those Taiwan residents who stopped over on the Chinese mainland for business trips or tourism, the NBS said.
