The man who shot dead four police officers in the eastern Shandong Province in January and murdered another man last December was given the death sentence yesterday by the Tai'an City Intermediate People's Court.

Liu Jianjun stabbed Dou Guangdong to death on December 29, 2010 in Dezhou City, in a planned murder assisted by his brother Liu Jianmin, Xinhua reported yesterday.

Liu Jianjun received a death sentence for murder and illegal possession of a gun, while Liu Jianmin was sentenced to life imprisonment. But Liu Jianjun managed to escape from the prison and hid in the home of another brother Liu Lumin in Tai'an City.

When the four policemen came to their door to search for the fugitive on January 4, the two brothers opened fire at the officers, killing all of them, then hijacked four cars to escape and shot two drivers in the run. They were eventually cornered by pursuing police cars.

Liu Lumin killed himself with a gunshot while Liu Jianjun was arrested.
