New Foxconn employee commits suicide

A factory worker apparently jumped to her death after an incident at Taiwan's high-tech giant Foxconn, continuing the company's spate of suicides among its workforce.
Citing a company's statement, Hong Kong media reported Friday that the 25-year-old engineer died January 7 after falling from her brother's home in Shenzhen, South China's Guangdong Province, where Foxconn runs a massive production complex.
The unnamed employee, who had worked for Foxconn since 2005, had "been on sick leave" at the time of her death after factory officials rebuked her for an unknown reason and told her she would lose her job. Taiwan media further reported that the worker was mentally troubled.
Labor rights activists have slammed Foxconn's tough working conditions for pushing employees to suicide.
At least 13 employees at Foxconn - the world's largest maker of computer components, which produces goods for Apple, Sony and Nokia - died in similar circumstances in 2010, according to media reports.
